Randall Rapstine’s most recent success is as Director of Margaret Cho’s New York theatrical smash MARGARET CHO’S SENSUOUS WOMAN — a Sinsational New Variety Show. The show also sold out in Miami, San Francisco, LA and Chicago.
In addition, he serves as director for James Judd’s spectacularly successful one-man “7 Sins,” which has played New York, Washington, D.C., Seattle, throughout Canada and Edinburgh, Scotland, and which enjoyed a sold-out 3-month run this past fall in San Francisco. It has recently been knocking ‘em dead on the high seas as part of Atlantis Events’ onboard live entertainment.
Randall was born in the state of Texas, which explains why he sometimes yelps "Yee haw" when excited. Randy, as he was then known, wrote his first play at the age of seven (from an idea fully-realized by others on “The Carol Burnett Show”) in which he played the starring role and also got to boss his cousins around as director, dramaturg and scenic artist (it was his idea to use the red tablecloth as a curtain).
Naturally, he eventually made his way to the Dramatic Arts program at The University of Texas in Austin, where he drank beer, learned the correct usage of the phrase “serge de Nime” and played many roles, from “The World’s Greatest Dancing Bear” to Shawn Keough in Playboy of the Western World. Upon receiving that BFA, it was off to New York to study at The William Esper Studio under the tutelage of Maggie Flannigan.
Ensconced in Manhattan, he wrote for the NPR live radio series “The 1990’s Radio Hour and a Half,” assisted producer John Glines on the award-winning Broadway production of As Is, wrote sketches and improvised with The Afterwords Comedy Ensemble (founded on Martha’s Vineyard) at Catch a Rising Star and Caroline’s — where they opened for Jon Stewart, and appeared in and produced numerous theatricals, including Richard III, Table Manners and Blue Window. He also did time as Assistant to the Producer of The Vineyard Playhouse on Martha’s Vineyard.
Regionally he became know as Randall and earned theatre credits which run the gamut from Renfield in Dracula! to Bassanio in Merchant of Venice and George in She Loves Me! Next stop: Hollywood.
In Los Angeles, he has appeared on Valentine, Boston Legal, Joey, Freddie, A.U.S.A., Angel, Sabrina, Roswell, Grosse Pointe, Frasier, Movie Stars, Norm, To Have and To Hold, Rescue 77, Brimstone, The Magnificent Seven, Jenny, and Over the Top. Film appearances include Every Dog Has Its Day, Allen — Your Worst Dating Nightmare (in the titular role), Dr. Dolittle, Mary Christmas and the original live action musical Geppetto, starring Drew Carey for The Wonderful World of Disney. Ever one to grow with his art, he proudly played Principal to those adorable l’il moppet millionaires, the Olsen Twins, in Our Lips Are Sealed (showing every five minutes on FOX Family Channel).
He’s also made himself at home in the LA theatrical community, receiving accolades for his performances in Sweet Deliverance at the Hudson, Ondine at The Powerhouse, Catch a Falling Star at International City Theatre, Zastrozzi, the Master of Discipline at The Ruby, as God in The Outside In at The MET, and in Lonely Planet at the Davidson/Valentini. In addition, he produced and directed a slew of plays at The MET in his tenure as Artistic Director.
